Located on three acres, the award-winning East 38th Street Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library is a 16,000 SF public facility with a 60-car parking lot.

The one-story brick building has a unique triangular front-facing exterior with an open design and large curtains of windows on three sides.

Inside, there is a circulation desk, adult and children’s stacks, quiet reading areas, public computers, children’s theater/reading area, meeting room, staff work area, and a snack/coffee bar. The interior features a floating acoustical ceiling, architectural bulkhead, and colored glass.

Site challenges included incorporating an existing wetland into the finished landscaping and protecting the natural area during construction.

The facility received a Monumental Affair Merit Award in the community development category from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful in 2003.
