Powers & Sons was a member of Prairie District 3 Partners, a design-build venture to construct the Marriott Marquis Chicago, currently ranked as Chicago’s sixth largest hotel.
The 40-story South Loop property at 2121 South Prairie Avenue is located at the intersection of MLK Drive, Cermak Road, and Prairie Avenue. It is connected to McCormick Place Convention Center and Wintrust Arena via pedestrian bridges.
With development led by the Metropolitan Pier & Exposition Authority, the hotel includes 1,205 guest rooms and 44 luxury suites. It features 93,000 SF of conference space, 43,000 SF of breakout room spaces, two 25,000 SF ballrooms, and a signature event space on the 33rd floor with striking views of the downtown skyline and Lake Michigan that holds over 10,500 seats.
The interior features a sweeping lobby with luxurious modern finishes, a club lounge, street-level bars and dining, and state-of-the-art fitness center. The two-year project was designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification.
