METROPOLITAN PIER & EXPOSITION AUTHORITY (MPEA)

AMERICAN BOOK COMPANY BUILDING

  • Location: Chicago
  • Completed: June 2017
  • Delivery method: Design-build

As part of a design-build joint venture for the Marriott Marquis Chicago, Powers & Sons renovated and restored the neighboring historic American Book Company (ABC) Building.

We also added a new four-story metal and glass pedestrian bridge connecting the ABC Building to the Marriott Marquis Chicago convention center and hotel.

Our work for the Metropolitan Pier & Exposition Authority included adding parking areas, renovating a central utility plant, and creating a public park along South Prairie Avenue and 21st Street.

Built in 1912, the five-story 120,000 SF building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. It is located in the city’s growing McCormick Place area.
