IU HEALTH AND INDIANA UNIVERSITY BREAK GROUND ON IU REGIONAL ACADEMIC HEALTH CENTER

On January 16, more than 250 people attended the official ceremonial groundbreaking of the new IU Health Regional Academic Health Center on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington.

The 700,000 SF complex will include a cancer center, surgical services, a women’s center, neonatal intensive care, physician offices, and a trauma center. A state-of-the-art health care simulation center used to train students and clinicians on new patient care techniques will be shared by the University and IU Health.

In addition, the facility includes the new 115,000 SF IU Academic Health Sciences Building, which will consolidate most of the academic health science programs on the IU Bloomington Campus. This includes those in medicine, nursing, social work, speech and hearing, and a new dentistry program.

Work on the site of what used to be the IU Golf Course driving range is set to begin in the next few weeks with construction scheduled to be completed on the facility near the end of 2020.

Currently serving on the project is Keith Shanklin who is the Senior Project Manager overseeing the Central Energy Plant (CEP) building construction and will also serve as the MEP Manager for the entire IU Regional Academic Health Center.

Powers & Sons is excited to be part of an opportunity that will help “break new ground” in patient care, research and education.

LAKESIDE ALLIANCE SELECTED AS THE CONSTRUCTION TEAM FOR THE OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL CENTER

Our team is comprised of a Joint Venture between Turner Construction Company, Powers & Sons Construction, UJAMAA Construction, Inc., Brown & Momen, Inc., and Safeway Construction Company, Inc.

“The creation of this joint venture will ensure that minority firms from the South Side will be in significant leadership positions in the construction of the Obama Presidential Center,” as stated in the press release.

The Obama Presidential Center will be located in Jackson Park on the South Side of Chicago, near The University of Chicago’s campus. The center will feature a forum building, a museum, a library, a plaza, and an athletic center. The majority of these spaces will be free and open to the public.

While construction is not slated to begin until late 2018, our team will immediately begin providing pre-construction services during the project’s remaining design phase.
