GOODWILL STORE OPENS AT THE SHOPS AT AVONDALE MEADOWS

On November 27, the Avondale Meadows neighborhood welcomed a new 12,000 square-foot Goodwill Store. This is the first store to open at the Shops at Avondale Meadows, which is a 150-acre mixed-use development featuring 140,000 square-feet of retail space. When complete, the development will include a Save-A-Lot Grocery store and an additional 12,600 square-feet of retail space.

Located on the 2800 block of East 38th Street near Keystone Avenue, the Avondale Meadows area has been defined by the local community as a food desert since 1996 with the nearest supermarket located more than a mile away. Efforts to bring grocery and retail stores to the neighborhood has been eight years in the making, and part of a $70 million investment to transform the area. The development is expected to create 20 full-time and 50 part-time jobs.

With quality schools, current affordable housing options, retail and grocery stores coming to the community, Avondale Meadows is on its way to becoming the heart that promises to gradually improve the surrounding area.
