Powers & Sons completed the ground-up new construction of the five-story, 62-unit affordable senior housing development located on ten formerly vacant Chicago lots in West Town.

Located at 1639 West Washington Boulevard, McCrory Senior Apartments is 63,000 SF community built to fit the area’s historical context. Constructed with structural steel framing, steel studs, and a precast deck, the community includes 48 one-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom units with spacious floor plans.

The exterior is brick and cast stone with aluminum panels. The two-story entrance includes a mural that pays homage to the stained glass in the nearby First Baptist Congregational Church (FBCC), a historic national landmark.

Amenities include a community room, fitness room, exam room for medical check-ups, management office, 24-seat multimedia theatre, rear patio, and a front-porch setting.

Designed with energy-efficient features, this Brinshore Development included a partnership with FBCC to offer services, programming, and social activities for residents. Funding came from tax increment financing (TIF), low-income housing tax credits, tax credit equity from the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), and private lenders.
